Why I closed my membership and broke my spiritual business
I thought I had a thriving and successful spiritual business, until one day the penny dropped and I decided to close EVERYTHING down!
One morning I was in the middle of paying bills, doing my accounts, in between supporting my team to answer customer service messages and write emails and create content. I found myself more often doing the things I don't like! I hired people to support me but every person needed my support. More team doesn't always mean less work.
I was exhausted and stuck in constant work mode. I had just hired another team member to do a meditation call in my membership group once a month so I could free up my time to focus on new creative projects.
But here's the thing as she took our members on a beautiful journey to meet their angels I was knee-deep in accounts and customer service support issues like answering emails, pulling together all of my figures for the past year and paying bills and getting my s**t in order. This exact thought crossed my mind and was like a lightning lightbulb moment:'They get to do the fun stuff while I'm doing this!'
It suddenly hit me, this is not why I created my spiritual business! I created it so I'd have more time to work with the angels and support spiritual business owners to get their healing gifts out into the world. I LOVED working with the angels, it felt like home and where I was in that moment did not.
I decided to take a look back over the past few years and especially 2022 and saw a lot of mistakes one after the other, (That's for another email!).
These mistakes had cost me a lot of money and in my effort to make up for them I was going from one bad decision to another scrabbling to keep things going. But in that moment I realized this is not working.
If I had to pick ANY job in the world to do and get paid for, accounts and customer service emails would be the last things on the list. Don't get me wrong I know there are a lot of things going on in the background to make a spiritual business work, admin, accounts, customer service, managing team, answering emails, creating and delivering content, marketing (A whole other full-time job on its own!). There are some things I love and some things I hate.
I decided at that moment to delete everything I didn't like about my business.
Also looking at my accounts I realized I wasn't making the money I knew I was capable of and couldn't put on my finger on why exactly. I was asking myself, what could I do differently? I reached out to some close friends and mastermind buddies and also my two amazing sisters and just talked it out with them.
The facts where this.....
1. I had made massive mistakes in my business in 2022 which meant I wasn't making the money I wanted to make (Will share mistakes in another email!)
2. I was really busy doing things I really didn't want to do or ever thought I would be doing, things that didn’t make me happy on any level.
3. Although money was coming in through my business, it was going back out to pay for team, systems, software, taxes and managing all the moving parts of my business.
4. I was getting paid LAST and only IF there was anything left in the pot at that point. My business was sucking all of the money that came in to keep it afloat. I had kajabi, aweber, repurpose, canva, wordpress and hosting, zoom, online diary, support team, tech team, two accountants in two different countries (I moved my business from Ireland to Italy last year and I'm still navigating the bureacracy and learning a completely new tax system including starting to pay VAT) and a myriad of other moving parts that I can’t even remember right now.
5. While I was paying for all these systems, some of them don't even work the way I wanted them to. I couldn't even figure out how to do a simple blog on my website without asking my tech team to help!
6. I was working for nothing, which might not have been so bad if I had been actually doing the things I LOVE to do like working with the angels (I share actual numbers below).
7. I was making some decisions based on the fact that I needed to bring in money to keep everything working and not because it filled my heart with joy.
8. The only part of my business that I loved at that time, was hosting a weekly call in my membership/programme but that was just for an hour once a week!
The conclusion: I was working my ass off, there was always something to do in my business and very little time left to actually do the creative work my heart craved and for all this hard work I actually had no money to show for it!
That month I looked at the numbers... about €3000 came in through my business. It was a modest month, but still a good basic net monthly salary. My monthly business income fluctuated between 1000 and 9000 over the past 12 months. But the thing is I saw barely any of it in my bank account! Income means nothing if you're spending it all, That’s still ZERO!
All the money I made was sucked back into my business and into keeping this thing up and running. I felt exhausted and depressed and stuck on a treadmill I didn't even want to be on! I had no time for exercise, making new friends, learning a language or creating anything new. All my creative ideas were sitting in my head gathering dust and leaving me unfulfilled and just sad.
Since I moved to Italy every few months I found myself back in the classroom teaching English for a few hours a week. It started as a hobby and way for me to get out of my apartment, meet other humans and learn to speak Italian and I LOVED working with the kids. But I also realized that this was the only money that was coming into my actual account.
So, there was this lightbulb moment of WTF! I started my business to be able to teach and work with angels. Way back in 2010 when I first started teaching classes, it was because I LOVED the angels and the work. Here I was busy with my ‘successful’ spiritual business but making no actual money from all the hours I was putting in.
I heard myself in my head speaking to my coaching clients: 'If you're not making any money in your business, it's a hobby and not a business' The thing was this wasn't even a hobby anymore! This is absolutely NOT how I'd choose to spend my time. It was my worst business nightmare! Me in an accounts and customer service position!
I wanted to write books, create more courses, work with thousands of people, share my knowledge and experience of the angels, I wanted to support lightworkers to get online and share their healing gifts with more people around the world. I wanted to create a legacy, I wanted to get the books and words inside me out into the world.
I also wanted to have some f**king fun again and stop working so hard and I have more time to spend with those I loved, to make new friends, and to travel again.
It was over the course of a few weeks of deep and difficult soul-searching conversations that I decided to close EVERYTHING down and start again. To simplify everything I was doing, to go back to basics, to cut out all of my workload.
The hardest thing was letting go of my weekly group coaching calls, but I knew everything had to close, so I had space to think and look into my heart and decide what I really want to do next.
These are some of the actions I took in those three months of simplifying:
1. Closed down my Membership/Alignment Programme and let go of all my clients and subscriptions (Very scary!).
2. Closed down my websites and hosting service (I had 2 active websites and neither was really working) and combined them into one simple website that isn't the most beautiful yet but definitely the most functional, and I can now write a f**ing blog without assistance! Bliss!
3. Let my tech team go and just kept one amazing assistant to work with me.
4. Closed my learning platform on kajabi and took down all my courses (Hundreds of hours of content, videos, pdfs!)
5. Made decisions based on this Q; Is this going to help me simplify my life and business or make it more complicated and just keep me busy?
6. Searched for ways to deliver my courses and training without the inevitable customer service and tech required to get them back online and available for sale (We've created a temporary home on my new website, but eventually all content will be available on another learning platform that works for me and not the other way around- I'll share more about that later too!)
7. Actively explored other passive income products and services to supplement my income (I'll share more about this in another email).
8. To keep money coming in while I went through this transition and to pay for my basic business and living expenses I did the following:
Looked for affiliate partnerships that required minimal time and effort. I chose one high-quality programme that I believed in and was valuable to my community. This helped me to bring in some money to cover my basic business expenses while going through this transition.
Switched my online diary to one that was simpler, cheaper and better looking and offered 121 private sessions.
I took on some more hours at the local school teaching English, so I could bring some in extra cash while I closed it all down and figured out my next move.
I managed to cut my expenses by nearly 70%. I let the rest of my team and a ton of software go and just simplified everything I could.
It was really scary, ending all my client subscriptions, but I knew in my heart that I had to do it. Everything had to go, so I had the space to think, dream, be creative and decide what sort of business I actually wanted.
I've been asking myself, 'What do you really want to do Aishling?' and allowing all the things, projects, and ideas to surface and take a look at it all without making any big rushed decisions.
I finally feel like there's SPACE in my life, in my diary and in my mind to actually create something again.
Last month, as I passed by a church, had the urge to go inside and just sit in the stillness for a moment.
I connected with the beautiful energies of Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene and thought about the space I had finally created around me. I asked one question: What's next? What do you want me to do next?'
The answer was clear and unexpected 'Teach Transform with Angels again'. There was some resistance but as I thought about it there was also a lot of sense in it. This is where I first began my spiritual business journey. It was the first programme I taught live and then hosted online. In those early days, it was literally a dream come true to be able to teach this content and get paid for my work. My dream job.
I also knew that taking the 12 weeks journey with my angels would give me the personal space to reconnect with them and my life's purpose. I just knew that I would come out of this experience with more joy, peace and purpose than I've felt in years.

I finally have the space and time to create new content, including meditations and pdfs and offer live angel coaching and healing meditations throughout the 12 weeks and return to what I love to do.
12 weeks is the perfect commitment for me (And maybe you?) right now. It's a healthy business boundary and not an endless membership or a year-long programme that requires a ton of energy, marketing, admin, managing and customer service. There's space for creativity and personal and spiritual development.
